Bio

Jessica Rice is an artist working in the Houston area. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Houston- Downtown with a focus in urban education and art. After studio painting and participating in gallery shows for five years, she painted her first mural in 2012 and began the not for the faint of heart, but extremely rewarding, journey of a mural artist.

Her work has been commissioned for various types of retailers, communal spaces, banks, restaurants, interactive galleries, public outreach entities, city community project organizations, and private collections across Texas. Recently she painted a mural for the Houston Zoo, highlighting conservation efforts for the Asian Elephant. She has been an artist partner for multiple Texas art entities including Fresh Arts, Houston Arts Alliance, the Mini Mural Project by UP Art Studio, and Aerosol Warfare. Rice is also a three-time selected and returning artist for HUE Mural Festival, one of the biggest in the city of Houston.

Rice is passionate about education through the arts and involving young people and communities in public art projects. One of her most rewarding projects had her lead over 50 community volunteers in painting a skatepark. Any project that tells a story or uplifts a community is when she is at her best. Her murals are exclusively brush work, and draw inspiration from pop surrealism of the past three decades, cartoons, her own trippy daydreams, and usually involve a feminine character of some kind.
