Bio

Lauri Lynnxe Murphy is a bioartist, sculptor, curator and writer living in Denver. Alongside her robust and transdisciplinary studio practice and her work as an educator, she’s spent her career building DIY galleries and advocating for community. Her process is research-driven and science-based, and focuses on extinction, mutation, and climate change. Much of her work is made by collaborating with endangered species and the systems they employ, such as building sculptures with bees or making drawings with snails, processes that are scientific in approach and embracing failure of necessity.

Her motivation is encouraging biophilia, or a love of nature, to remind viewers of what we stand to lose if we don’t take action. Much of her work focuses on making the invisible visible, whether it is the ephemeral path of a meandering snail or biomorphic forms taken from mutation patterns, materiality is emphasized and the medium is chosen for its ability to convey the idea, whether it be sculpture, drawings, installation or photography.
