Bio

Chris McMullen has been working with steel in his Seattle studio since 2000.
A fascination with industrial process and a background in Graphic Communication has led to a body of work consisting of kinetic sculpture and machine-like, interactive pieces.

He is a recipient of the 4Culture Individual Artist Project Grant, as well as the Artist Trust Grants for Artists Projects (GAP). He is also on the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture Public Artist Roster 2017-’20, the SanFrancisco Arts Commission Pre-Qualified Artist Pool 2019-’20 and the Sound Transit Artist Roster for Seattle
WA 2016-’19.

A selection of his work has been featured in Bellevue’s Biennial Sculpture exhibition, the Redmond Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition, Winston Wächter Fine Art, Out of Sight at King Street Station, Bellevue Art Museum, Gallery4Culture, and Oxbow Georgetown, as well as Art Outside, Georgetown Carnival, Bumbershoot, Maker Faire, Coachella, and Burning Man.

Most recently, Chris has a new sculpture installed in two exhibitions in Palazzo Mora in Venice, Italy as part of Architecture Biennale 2018 and Art Biennale 2019. The GlobalArtAffairs Foundation invited him to participate in “Time Space Existence,” as well as “Personal Structures.” These large art and architecture exhibitions are hosted and supported by the European Cultural Centre in the context of the Venice Biennale.

Chris has work permanently installed in City Hall in Redmond, WA as part of the city’s collection, the Science Museum of Oklahoma, and the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle; commissioned by SDOT through the Office of Arts & Culture.
