The Royal Rumpus Room

Located in Theta Theater

In an alternate, mystical universe where inhabitants have their hierarchy of needs met, the royal sovereigns of the tarot take a well-deserved break from divining the lives of people on Earth.
Attending an esoteric silent disco, they let loose and separately enjoy their favorite tunes in the company of each other. These sovereigns aren't of the Rider Waite variety; they are the alchemization of the occult and the known, the ancient and the futuristic - encompassing each native leader of the suit of cups, wands, spades, and pentacles.
When the viewer enters the space, a fluorescent wraparound mural of four characters in reimagined, futuristic, native ensembles welcomes them. The person representing the suit of cups is decorated with motifs depicting the Ibanag culture, Sugbuanon culture represented in the sword, Tagalog culture represented in the wand, and Badjao culture represented in the pentacle.
These individuals represent just a small portion of the indigenous ethnic groups in the Philippines that exist today. Many are at high risk of violence through land theft, mining, and climate disasters, but they continue to preserve their culture and fight for their ancestral lands. The characters wear futuristic ear tech enhancing their music experience while they dance ecstatically with each other. The ear pieces also symbolize the importance of listening to indigenous people who steward the land in order to protect the planet, and in turn, preserving humankind.
