Inspired by the form of flexible neon LED fixtures, the double helix channels the awesome nature of our biological reality. Celebrating a fundamental scientific framework for understanding existence, the DNA theme adds a layer of phenomenology and asks the viewer to reflect on the bizarre, perhaps ungraspable, truths of what it means to be alive. Contextualizing the piece as a Middling Market sign allows for the “playful” suggestion that our technologically-advanced society has captured and commodified this source code and can sell its powers back to us via storefronts offering gene-splicing treatment that are as ubiquitous as barbershops.
