Darién “Dilly” Nueve-Banda is an old-timer; an Armadillo humanoid; a disabled veteran freedom fighter; and a teller of tall tales, colloquialisms, bad jokes, poetic musings, philosophical quandaries, and gentle wisdom. Originally from Panama, Dilly grew up in a family of engineers, master builders, and architects. From a very young age, Dilly was passionate about the rights of others. As a young adult, Dilly sought to aide others in the pursuit of freedom, lending his skills as a builder and engineer building hospitals, new roads, and water treatment centers, and repairing heavy machinery as a civil engineer for the just cause of an equitable future.
Dilly also loves to sing; so much so that he’s earned the nickname “El Sonador” from his friends. Dilly lost his eyesight in a construction accident.
He later decided to open a bar in Houston, Texas called “The Yella’ Salt Lick,” featuring cumbia, country, tejano and cajun musical styles. Dilly has also taken up hosting a late night music show for the local radio station titled ‘Late Night Armadillionaire,” where he features various rare artists and recordings primarily of the country music variety.
It is also not uncommon for Dilly to wax and wane poetic in a kind of free form abstract stream of consciousness. It is as much a southwestern Kerouac fever dream as it is a radio show. Batsy and Angel are big fans of Dilly’s show, and would call in all the time to make requests, ask about songs and artists as well as make recommendations, thus eventually winding up at the bar and forming a lasting friendship. Upon deciding to retire, Dilly sold the bar to Batsy. Dilly now has an honorary seat at the bar, where he can always be found eloquently elucidating loquaciously.
